Abnormal repetitive behavior of a ring-tailed lemur

Abnormal repetitive behaviors can develop for many different reasons. We have a few animals here at the center with them as well. Many times they develop out of a way to deal with stress, lack of enrichment, and ways of coping. Not all of them, but many of them develop this way. Once they start developing, they are already learned and if positive reinforcement for alternate behaviors in behavior modification plans cease, it is very likely the animal will resort back to these behaviors. This is an example with a ring tailed lemur that appears to resort to this as a lack of being able to get to something. The placement of the hands on the same cage bar each time is a clear indication this has been well practiced.
