Turn fun on its head ……..and there’s a new track you can listen to!
Naaku Mukka, a typical “koothu”or folk song, hugely popular from a Tamil film, sung here in classical Carnatic style to the accompaniment of Western Violin and Trap beat! In complete contrast to the original, this version has a melodious tune in raga Brindavana Saranga, and is set to Misra Chapu talam, making it seriously Carnatic….well almost!
The track starts with a simple trap beat which gathers momentum, when the Carnatic tune for the Pallavi is introduced; the chorus joins in. Then there are simple Tabla bols with swarams , Bol Taans with the words Naaku Mukka accompanied by fast beats on the Tabla. This builds up to a crescendo and them everything comes to a halt, a brief pause, and then the singing resumes with ""laary sona”, a word from the original song leading into a violin solo. A return to Pallavi, with all the elements coming together to finish the piece on a high.
Shravan Kumar Ramani composed this tune four years back. At the IndianRaga Fellowship what started as a fun singing of the tune by him ended up as a track overnight! The vocals here are by Harlove Singh (Hindustani) and Shravan Kumar Ramani (Carnatic), Sruthi Sriram, Kavitha Jayaraman, Praphul Pemmaraju, Makheer Singh join in the chorus, with Mayukha Kashyap on the Violin, Ritvik Yaparpalvi on Tabla, and Music arrangement and production by Nagaari.
